| | The Shepard Apartments is a semi-independent living complex designed for persons with psychiatric disabilities. Sponsored by Halfway House Services, Inc., and built with funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the Shepard Apartments offers people with psychiatric disabilities both affordable housing and a program of services to help them live as independently as possible. Tenants pay approximately 30% of their income for rent and utilities. To receive this benefit, tenants must regularly supply income verification information. Shepard Apartments has eight residential units, a manager unit, an office, common laundry facilities and a common meeting and social area. There is an onsite Apartment Manager for building-related issues. Laurel Hill Center and Lane County Mental Health Services staff provide the following supportive services for residents:

Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria will be further screened by a Screening Committee. Each prospective client fills out additional forms and gives permission for staff to contact past and present service providers and others who know the applicant. A criminal history check is required. Evidence of past criminal activity does not automatically eliminate the applicant from the waiting list. Staff from Halfway House Services, Laurel Hill Center, and Lane County Mental Health Services will interview and screen applicants after all information is received. Applicants are responsible for providing changes to their address and contact information to the Screening Committee during the selection process.
ABOUT THE APARTMENTS The apartments are compact and efficient one or two bedroom units with good natural lighting, reasonable privacy, and access to a pleasant common courtyard. A laundry room and community room are available for resident use. The apartments have:
